Kimberley

Face 33.

My name is Kimberly Carey and I struggled with the idea of not being "good enough" for so long that I decided one day enough was enough. Here's my story on what brought about that change and how I started running my life and showing others how to do the same while living in the United Arab Emirates.

My passions are makeup and makeup education. This all started as a result of me officially losing my hair to a condition called Alopecia (Alopecia Areata), 19 years ago. Alopecia is an autoimmune skin disorder that causes one's hair to fall out and possibly return but all us beyond the person's control. Scalp, facial or body hair can be affected, and it happens in both men, women, and children. When I lost my hair, I felt I had absolutely no control over anything when it came to my body. It was very emotional and traumatizing to try to figure how to live as a person in a country where hair is the known standard of beauty. But I was then turned on to a different type of control and realized that even though I could not control my hair, I could control what goes on my face. Hence, the birth of this passion/makeup company (Heavenly Reflection Make Up-UAE) and my desire to show that, "Bald is Beautiful", to this side of the world.

Overtime, I came to realize that this condition chose me and now I live my life as an Alopecian woman in the United Arab Emirates. It has truly been a blessing because I have had the opportunity to publicly empower women, men and children and let them know it's ok to be your own kind of beautiful and you can set a new standard of beauty.

When I was first selected to be the face of Runway Dubai 2016, (Dubai Fashion Week), a model for Tips and Toes, (Top Salon & Spa Chain in the UAE), and a feature face for the 'a1000faces' project. I thought it was a joke someone was playing on me, but when each one was confirmed, I cried. I always thought of myself as pretty or good to my friends and family, but NOT pretty or good "ENOUGH" to represent/model for brands such as these and lots more.

We all have that one thing(s) that has stripped us of our self-confidence at some point in our lives, but it’s our job not give in. We must push pass that thing, be stronger than it and wear it as a badge of honor. We are more than enough, but this belief must start from within if we plan on making a change in our lives and in the lives of others.
